My recent commission from the Joint Services Command and Staff College, at the UK Defence Academy, has kept me busy in recent weeks. The idea behind the three works is to depict the legacy of the UK armed forces over the last one hundred years by painting the technologies from either end of that time span. The first piece shows the legendary Sopwith Camel, one of the finest fighters of its era. Bursting out from behind the venerable old biplane and banking hard to port is the RAF's latest fighter in the form of the Typhoon. The painting is coming to fruition with work still to be done on the foreground fields and some minor detailing to the aircraft. |

The second canvas tackles the Naval element of the commission. Seen here is the new Type 45 Destroyer, HMS Daring. The ship is a quantum leap forwards in Naval technology. Behind Daring can be seen HMS Hood. Although she met her end in the icy waters of the North Atlantic whilst facing the Bismarck, the mighty Hood was the pride of the Royal Navy for over twenty years and it seems fitting to use her as a testament to the UKs fine Naval traditions. |

The Aircraft
Until 31st October 2010, which sees the anniversary of end of the Battle of Britain, a percentage of aviation art sales will be donated to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund (RAFBF). This important charity supports those in real need and its services range far and wide in support of past and present RAF service men and women and their families.
